Faculty of Management Technology was established in 1997. Full academic Programme started in 1998 with its first set of students. The Faculty graduated its first set of students in 2002/2003 academic session. Currently, the Faculty is structured into: Department of Accounting & Finance Technology (DAFT); and the Department of Management & Information Technology (DMIT).
Aims & Objectives
1. To provide high quality knowledge and skills for the understanding and analysis of business problems using modern-day techniques and technologies in the field of information and communication.
2. The course is designed to equip candidates to be able to collect, interpret, analyze and present data for corporate decision-making using ICT.
3. To ensure those candidates are able to apply skills acquired in finding solutions to Management problems, Banking problems, Insurance problems, and Accounting problems, and to prepare candidates for practice in these professional fields.
4. To be able to advise clients, with the aid of ICT, on Banking, Insurance, Accounting, and general Management and to be able to audit other organizations if need be, using modern technology.
5. Organize, teach and conduct research in Accounting, Banking, Insurance, and General Management through the use of Information Technologies.
6. To utilize modern Management skills and techniques in planning in both the private and public sectors of the economy.
Admission Requirement
There are three admission procedures into the Department which are:
UTME: 5-Year Degree Programme
Candidates must have obtained 5 Credits passes at ‘O’ level in SSCE, NECO, GCE or its equivalent to include the following subjects: Mathematics, English (compulsory), two (2) subject from Geography, Chemistry, Agric Science, Food and Nutrition, Physics and Biology and any one (1) subject from Economics, Business Methods, Commerce, Accounting, Book-keeping, Government and Home Economics at not more than two sittings. In addition, the candidate must meet the UTME Cut-off Point.
UTME subjects are: Mathematics, Economics and any one of Chemistry, Physics or Biology.
DIRECT ENTRY: 4-Year Degree Programme
UTME: 5-Year Degree Programme
Candidates must have 5 ‘O’ level passes at Credit level in the following subjects: Mathematics, English, Geography, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Additional Mathematics, and any one (1) commercial subject in addition to two ‘A’ level papers passed at a minimum of Credit level at IJMB, ‘A’ level or its equivalent.
Candidates with National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science and Information and Communications Technology with a minimum of lower credit pass are eligible for admission.
Remedial Programme
The university also operates a remedial programme that prepares candidates for admission. Such candidates must pass UME at cut-off points and also successfully remedy relevant subjects as specified in the UME.
To satisfy the requirements for graduation, a student must take and pass the minimum number of units specified in the Programme before he/she can qualify for the award of a degree in Information Technology. In addition to the above, the student must pass all compulsory General Studies Courses and the Industrial Training Courses and submit a graded project report based on a suitable title approved by the Department at the end of 500 levels.
UME Candidates: Minimum units required for graduation (including units of industrial attachment) is 175 Units.
DE Candidates: Minimum units required for graduation (including units of industrial attachment) is 145 Units.
Degree Classification
This is determined by the Cumulative Grade Point Average earned at the end of the Programme. The CGPA is the average of all the earned GPAs. The CGPA shall be used in the determination of the class of degree.
