Aims & Objectives
The cardinal objective of the course is to promote academic excellence through the training of technocrats and functional Environmental Managers capable of managing the environment based on the concept of sustainable development.
The course is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge in environmental management concepts and the use of modern equipment and techniques to manage such. It provides sound background knowledge and a reasonable compact view of the entire environment with emphasis on matters that are of concern to humanity.
The course offers challenges in experimental methods and techniques in making observations on the field and a mission oriented research to meet the challenges of changing environment.
The Department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. At the undergraduate level, a Five-year B.Tech (Hons) Degree in Environmental Management Technology is offered.
At Graduate level the department offers Postgraduate Diploma in Environment and Development as well as M.Tech and Ph.D degrees in the following fields of specialization:
- Pollution and Waste Management
- Environmental Health and Hygiene
- Biodiversity Conservation
- Energy Utilization and Management
- Water and Water Deficient Environment
The greatest challenge facing humanity today is the quantum of disequilibrium of the global eco-system brought about by human activities. The various manifestations of this disequilibrium show clearly that nature is being pushed to the brink. Understanding of the workings of nature and accommodation of our wants and needs without infringing on the rights of other species and the indeed that of future generations are the reasons for establishment and developing a new discipline of Environmental Management. The Department of Environment Management Technology aims at providing top class environmental scientists and managers to ensure a sustainable local environment within a dynamic global environment.
